How to get the most from ChessPeak puzzles

Calculate before you move, climb one mountain at a time, replay to improve your stars, and train a little every day.

2 min read

ChessPeak is built on a simple idea: you get better at tactics by solving many puzzles on one theme, from easy to hard, and by solving them carefully. Here is how to make every minute count.

Solve it before you touch a piece

Points and stars reward the first try. A puzzle solved with no wrong moves earns 10 points and three stars. One wrong move gives 7 points and two stars; two or more give one star. So calculate the whole line before you move. Speed comes later, on its own.

Stuck? After three wrong moves, ChessPeak highlights the piece that has to move. After four, it plays the answer for you. Go through it move by move until you see why it works.

Climb one mountain at a time

Each mountain trains one theme, level by level, getting harder as you go. Finishing a whole mountain fixes a pattern in your memory far better than jumping between themes. A finished level adds 50 points; a finished mountain adds 500 and its flag.

A mountain map: three levels done with stars, the fourth under way
  1. 1The next level opens when this one is done
  2. 2The level you are on: 6 of 10 solved
  3. 3Stars show how cleanly you solved the level

Replay to improve your stars

You can come back to any puzzle you have already solved. A replay earns no new points, but it can raise your stars, which makes it a good way to review the puzzles you missed.

A little every day

Ten focused puzzles a day do more than a hundred once a week. Your streak counts the days in a row you solve, and badges mark the milestones on the way.
